History of La Peguera

Once upon a time there was a family living in the city of Barcelona – José the father, Margarita the mother, and their two children, Lluís and Isabel. Back in the 60s and 70s, they would spend all their summer vacations in an extraordinary place.

For over 15 years, we were lucky enough to set up our tent at base camp, which at that time was La Llebreta Lake. All those years of camping gave us the opportunity to explore and discover the lakes, scree slopes, flowers, wildlife, storms, hills, and peaks of the earthly paradise that is the Vall de Boí.

My dad was a big fan of trout fishing and the rest of the family was into hiking. We spent our vacations between lakes and scree slopes, discovering the highest peaks and the largest lakes. That unforgettable time was the happiest of our lives. The family fell in love with Llebreta Lake and the meadows, pastures, and mountains of the Vall de Boí and decided to construct the small family building on a piece of land called “Las Pegueras” back in the 80s.

Things really got going in 1986 when my parents, Margarita and José, opened the accommodation to summer tourists, who at the time would spend a whole month on vacation and become friends of the family. In 1991, with the opening of the Boí Taüll ski resort, the family decided to open the accommodation in winter for skiers too.

I would like to mention the improvements and work that the family carried out from 1994 to 2014, of which the renovation of the main facade is particularly noteworthy as it was clad in granite stone in 1994. In 2006, the driveways and parking area were paved. In 2010, the entire roof was renovated and new windows were added to it to improve ventilation and natural lighting. In 2014, the entire ground floor was renovated and a new reception and offices were inaugurated.

In 2002, Isabel – the current hostess and the person telling this story – decided to make a lifestyle change and left Barcelona for good to live in the Vall de Boí. So, since 2002, my efficient team and I have been committed to making La Peguera a haven of wellbeing that invites you to relax and regenerate while enjoying a balanced blend of tradition and modernity.

I am passionate about the Pyrenees and the Alps, with experience of numerous ascents of the highest and most iconic peaks, and I am always delighted to offer advice on hikes and help you to make your vacation unforgettable.
